Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School
Situated at Runnaway Bay on the Gold Coast
Kingspan was used for both the walls and roof of
the school Activity Centre. The building of the new
$1.4m facility was part of the schools program to
extend the learning environments in ways that
were both flexible and inspirational.

Project: Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School
Location: Runnaway Bay, Goldcoast
Product Roof: KS1000 RW
Product Wall: KS1000 MM (Mini-micro rib) and
KS1000 EB (Eurobox)
Architect: Peddle Thorp Architects
Builder: Walton Constructions
Installer: Metal Line Roofing
The new Activity Centre is a large 350m2 hall with
stage facilities and a dividing wall that changes the
space into 2 multipurpose teaching areas. For the
cladding, Kingspan’s Architectural Wall Panel
system provided the solution combining Mini-micro
(KS1000 MM) and Eurobox (KS1000 EB) profiles in
Colorbond Surfmist and Dune. For the roof
Kingspan’s trapezoidal insulated roof panel was
utilized. Both the roof and wall panels were supplied
100mm thick providing R Values of 5.15 for the
walls and 5.35 for the roof.
Project Architect Caroline Yuen of Peddle Thorp
comments: "We wanted a panel system that would
be fast to erect and had reasonable acoustic and
insulation properties. Kingspan was chosen for
these reasons as well as to meet a requirement for
a fairly low roof pitch of 2 degrees. The canopy
needed to be a flat as possible because of an
overhang from an adjoining building. Kingspan was
ideal for this. Comparable products we initially
looked at could only achieve a 5 degree pitch."
She continues: "The insulation properties were
recognised immediately, the electrician even
commented that he could hardly feel the heat
working directly underneath the roof on a really hot
day. From an acoustic perspective the panels
performed well in diminishing noise, especially as
some of the spaces have been divided into separate
classrooms. Aesthetically, Kingspan panels created
a very contemporary clean building with a strong
architectural look .The minimization of purlin
requirements because of the span of the panels is a
distinct advantage."
Builder of the project, Director of Walton
Constructions Rob Ellis comments: "The Kingspan
panels were quick and easy to install, so the risk of
injury on site was minimized. Our use of different
colours worked well which gave a modern look to
the building. I thought it ideal for school halls".
Mario Hirst of Metal Line Roofing, who was
responsible for the panel installation, comments,
"The product fitted together well and we were well
supported by Kingspan when dealing with tricky
situations on site. I found it satisfying to look back
after a days work to see the results of a high quality
product installed."
